A 33-year-old woman yesterday confessed to growing ganja because “things are hard” and she had to do something to survive.

Tiffany Nikita Elcock, a painter, of Fairfield Main Road, St Michael, admitted before Chief Magistrate Ian Weekes in the District “A” Magistrates’ Court to having 711 grammes of marijuana, with intent to supply and trafficking the illegal drug, on August 1.

She also admitted to cultivating 12 weed trees, with a weight of 4.40 kilogrammes, which all carried a street value of $21 155, and having equipment fit and intended for use in connection with the use of the illegal drug, all on the same date.

The mother of three further confessed to possession of another 55 grammes of cannabis, with intent to supply and traffic in the illegal drug, which carried an estimated street value of $275, also on the same date.

Prosecutor Station Sergeant Crishna Graham told the court, which is sitting in the No. 2 Supreme Court, that a search warrant was executed at Elcock’s home. While searching upstairs the two-storey house, where that section was still under construction, they found 12 weed plants, ranging from two feet to eight feet in height. (RA)
