Students will be returning to face-to-face classes when the 2022-2023 academic year begins on September 19, 2022.

This was announced by Minister of Education, Kay McConney, during a press briefing on Saturday.

McConney said that the decision was taken based on advice given by the Ministry of Health and Wellness on September 5th. “The school day will return to pre-pandemic scheduling. For example, schools that were in session from 9 am to 3 pm will return to that schedule. In preparation for the return to full face-to-face classes, our ministry has been working on planning and implementing extensive emergency and maintenance projects during this vacation, she said”.

Chief Education Officer, Dr Ramona Archer Bradshaw, gave a rundown of the protocols all schools will be following for the upcoming academic year.

“Masks are to be worn indoors by everyone at all times on school premises. Masks breaks are allowed but must do so outdoors. However, the wearing of masks outdoors is optional. Students engaging in physical education or other physical activities are not required to wear a mask,” she said.

Hand sanitisation will be mandatory upon entry into the school and regular sanitisation will be encouraged throughout the day. Vaccines are not required for students to enter schools, but they are encouraged by the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Health and Wellness.

Those who feel symptoms of COVID-19 are required to seek medical attention immediately and get tested. All pre pandemic extracurricular activities will be returning and general assemblies will be returning to full.
