COVID-19 update for September 12

Health authorities in Barabdos reported on Tuesday that two more people died from complications of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) and they have detected 80 new cases of the viral illness in the island.

A 69-year-old man and a 96-year-old woman died on Monday, September 12, and took the COVID-19 death toll to 558, according to a news release issued through the Barbados Government Information Service.

The news release added 34 males and 46 females – including 16 young people under the age of 18 –

were detected with the illness from the 524 tests conducted on the same day by laboratories across the island.

The authorities indicated that 41 people were seeking medical treatment in government isolation facilities at the time of reporting, while 380 were being monitored under the home isolation programme of the Ministry of Health and Wellness.

Health authorities also reported that 163 454 people (71.6 per cent of the eligible population) have received at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine under the national vaccination programme.

The number of people now considered fully vaccinated against the viral illness in the island now stands at 154 508 (57 per cent of the total population or 67.6 per cent of the eligible population).

The eligible population is anyone 12 years and older.
