SSA work stoppage over union dues

The Unity Workers’ Union (UWU) will be seeking an audience with Minister of Environment Adrian Forde to find an amicable solution on the electronic deduction of dues for new members.

Workers were off the job briefly on Thursday morning to draw attention to the issue. Despite indicating they were switching to UWU and writing to indicate their dues should be forwarded, this was not done.

General secretary of Unity, Caswell Franklyn, said it was not “a major disruption”, but that option remained open if the subscriptions were not forwarded.

“That last thing we would want to do is disrupt the collection of garbage at this time of the year, so close to Christmas,” Franklyn said. “But we will take this matter further if we have to, if the SSA continues to do what they have been doing.”  (Nation News)
