VIDEO: Dems outline vision for St Philip
The Democratic Labour Party (DLP) recently outlined its vision for St Philip, which was said to be linked to the revival of the party.
President, Dr Ronnie Yearwood, addressed a St Philip North meeting last month in Bayfield, under the theme A Vision For St Philip. He invoked the party’s philosophy of empowering people – putting people first.
“Rural Barbados has to be developed – St Lucy, St Peter, St Andrew, St Joseph, St John and St Philip – developed not to change the character of the areas but to provide services as people in St Philip are people too. No one should have to beg a politician for anything,” he said.
The DLP president said the revival of the party was linked to the development of rural Barbados and proposed the development of properly planned small towns in St Joseph, St Andrew and St Philip, linking the east of the island together and providing services, jobs and amenities, entertainment for country people.
“It is about economic activity and building our rural Barbados to empower local communities and people. It is about putting money in people’s pockets. It is about providing incentives for people in those areas to set up, for example, Airbnb’s that can put tourism in community hands. It is about creating opportunities for people to get jobs, to give them real independence and economic power. It is about creating farmers’ markets to sell goods and cottage industry products.
“That is what the DLP is about, has always been about, and will always be about,” he said. (Nation News)
