10-year jail term for AK47 gunman

Gunman Sean George Ivanhoe Whitehead was sentenced to ten years in jail for having an AK47 rifle and compatible ammunition when he appeared in the No. 2 Supreme Court on Friday.

However, he will serve a remaining 1 009 days or about two years and seven months after deductions.

Whitehead, 39, of Long Beach Estate, Christ Church, had admitted, at an earlier Session of the Continuous Sittings, having the rifle, as well as 24 rounds of ammunition and 3.44 kilogrammes of cannabis on March 10, 2011.

He also pleaded guilty to having equipment fit and intended for use in connection with the preparation of cannabis on March 10, 2011. (HLE)
