Providing running water ‘still priority’

Article by Kendy

Although over 1 100 water storage and rain harvesting systems were installed in water-scarce communities across the country, providing running water to households has not been placed on the back-burner.

Minister of Transport, Works and Water Resources Santia Bradshaw gave that assurance on Friday at the Barbados Water Authority’s (BWA) headquarters in The Pine, St Michael, during the launch of a personal tank programme, an initiative under the Water Sector Resilience Nexus for Sustainability (WSRN S-Barbados) or Aquasure Barbados.

The project is being executed with assistance from the Caribbean Community Climate Change Centre (CCCCC) and funded by the Green Climate Fund (GCF).

“Let there be no doubt that while this initiative is to be lauded, this Government and the BWA remain cognisant of our goal to ensure a consistent quality water supply to all households and businesses,” Bradshaw said. (TG)
