A gunman, who admitted he had no resources to pay a fine, was given a starting sentence of eight years in prison when he reappeared in the No 4 Supreme Court yesterday.

However, Akeele St Hill will spend a remaining 547 days, or one year 182 days, in jail after deductions were taken into consideration.

St Hill, 25, of 6th Avenue, New Orleans, St Michael, had pleaded guilty to having a 9mm Glock pistol and six rounds of 9mm-calibre ammunition on January 23, 2020.

He represented himself while State Counsel Kevin Forde, Treann Knight and Maya Kellman appeared for the State.

Justice Laurie-Ann Smith-Bovell told the gunman that even if she were minded to impose a fine, he had already indicated he did not have the means to pay any. (HLE)
