Barbados’ world-class quarter-miler Sada Williams made time stand still this morning.

The Arrivals Hall of the Grantley Adams International Airport saw Bajans coming home and visitors stop to get a glimpse when Government officials unveiled a mural on the inside and a billboard on the outside, in Williams’ honour at the island’s lone aviation facility.

People arriving to the island in the sun got a glimpse of the athlete, and outside, students from her former schools were part of the ceremony. Coach Paul Francis was also present.

Deputy Prime Minister, Santia Bradshaw and Minister of Sports and Youth, Charles Griffith led the tributes for Williams, who in August, earned bronze in the 400 metres at the World Athletics Championships in Budapest, Hungary.

Since moving her training base to Jamaica, the former Coleridge and Parry School and Harrison College student has become one of the more consistent female track and field stars on the planet, and Government today also provided her with an additional $150 000 to help prepare for the 2024 Olympic Games to be staged in Paris, France.
