Government intends to boost its ambitious 10 000 housing solutions in five years plan, with the creation of another housing project proposed for Dodds in St Philip.

Approximately 48.43 acres of land at Dodds was yesterday vested into the National Housing Corporation, in a resolution that will see residential, commercial and recreational development taking place there.

In introducing the resolution, Senior Minister in the Prime Minister’s Office Dr William Duguid announced that some residents who are still squatting under dangerous and unhealthy conditions at Rock Hall, St Philip, will be allocated some of the house spots.

“It will not only be them. In addition, we are going to make some of the house spots available to people working in the Government sector (such as teachers, police and nurses),” the former Housing Minister told the House of Assembly.

Some former Rock Hall residents have already been relocated to other areas of St Philip, but Duguid expressed concern that others remained, continuing to live on a “dump” that was in close proximity to the Grantley Adams International Airport. (GC)
