Roger Barker sworn in as Master of High Court

Barbados continues to make strides in the management of the case load of its Supreme Court with the swearing-in of Roger Barker as a Master of the High Court.

Barker took the oath of office yesterday, which was administered by acting President Reverend Dr Jeffrey Gibson during a brief ceremony at State House.

Among his duties, Barker will be responsible for managing cases before they are presented to the judges for adjudication at trial.

In addition, he has the power to hear applications for extension of time; applications for amendment of pleading; applications for leave to serve process out of the jurisdiction; judgment summonses; entering judgments by consent or confession; default judgments; interlocutory procedural matters; matters which may be dealt with at a case management conference; undefended divorce applications; and summonses for directions during the transitional period.

Barker, an attorney for 23 years, said that he dedicated the accomplishment to the community in Greens, St George, that helped to raise him.  (CLM)
