Officials tackling backlog as more people get COVID jab
More people received their first dose of the Oxford-AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccination today.
Co-coordinator of the National COVID-19 Vaccination Campaign Barbados Defence Force’s Major David Clarke, who was at Bayley’s Primary School in St Philip, said they were hoping to clear the backlog of appointments which was at about 10 000.
He said by the end of the day, they were likely to vaccinate enough people, which would take the national tally to more than 64 000 people.
People between ages 18 and 69 with chronic non-communicable diseases, teachers and security officers were among those who were to receive their jabs at the primary school.
He said that next week, they would begin administering the second dose of the COVID-19 vaccine to people who received their first shot earlier this year. (TG)
