NHC upgrades electrical wiring at Deacons
The residents of Deacons Housing Area, St Michael, can now sleep easier as the National Housing Corporation (NHC) has improved their electrical system.
Minister of Housing Dr William Duguid said electrical fires were a very real concern and that was why they had embarked on a national programme to upgrade the electrical systems of NHC housing units.
“We need to do this because if we don’t do these electrical upgrades, these units are at risk of fires . . . so electrical upgrades are very important to us and we are moving through and trying to complete as many of these as we can. Some of these electrical wirings are older than me, so I know how important it is to get this done,” he said.
Duguid said they had already completed Haynesville, St James and St Stephens, St Michael and were working on Ferniehurst (154 units – 80 per cent complete) and Rosemont (69 units, 75 per cent complete) also in St Michael. He said the number of contractors was being increased from 32 to 40, which should result in increased employment and the work being done more quickly. (CA)
