The number of new COVID-19 cases reported for Monday, October 4, is 318 – 159 each males and females – from 2 786 tests conducted by the Best-dos Santos Public Health Laboratory.

The new positives consist of 69 people under the age of 18, and 249 who are 18 years and older.

This is the single largest number of positive tests in Barbados reported from one day to the next.

There are 926 people in isolation facilities, but this figure does not include those isolating at home.

Two Barbadians, a 92-year-old woman, who had no known co-morbidities, and a 96-year-old man with a pre-existing condition, died from the virus on Monday, while at the Blackman and Gollop and Harrison Point isolation facilities, respectively. Both were unvaccinated.

Tests results received on Monday, also confirmed that an 82-year-old woman, who passed away at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital on Sunday, died from COVID-19.  She had co-morbidities and was also unvaccinated.

The viral illness has, so far, claimed 84 lives.

Barbados has recorded 9 523 confirmed cases of the virus (4 657 males and 4 866 females) since the start of the pandemic in March last year.

The public health laboratory carried out 329 273 tests since February 2020.

Under the National Vaccination Programme, 139 149 first doses of the COVID-19 vaccines were administered. Additionally, 108 222 people, or 39.9 per cent of the population, received second doses and are, therefore, fully vaccinated. (BGIS)
