Trio facing drug charges

Members of the Drug Squad have arrested and charged three people with a number of drug related offences.

They are 49-yearr-old Hamilton MacDonald Branch of Sherbourne #3, St John, 46-year-old Edward Dacosta Gollop of School Road, Halls Road, St Michael and 38-year-old Iroy Mactoba Hendrickson, a Vincentian national of Petit Bordel, St Vincent.

The trio were charged with possession of cannabis, trafficking cannabis, possession with intent to supply cannabis, and importation of cannabis.

On Monday, May 27, acting on information received, personnel from the Barbados Coast Guard went to the waters approximately 0.75 nautical miles off Consett Bay, where at 10:36 a.m., they intercepted a fishing vessel.

The vessel bore no markings or registration number and the accused men were found on board.

The vessel was searched and revealed five polythene bags. A further search of these polythene bags revealed a number of taped packages containing vegetable matter suspected to be cannabis.

The men were taken into custody and handed over to the Drug Squad for further investigations which resulted in their arrest and subsequent charges.

The weight of the vegetable matter suspected to be cannabis is 121.9 kilogrammes (268.18 lbs.) with an estimated street value of $487 600.

The men are scheduled to appear at the District ‘C’ Court before Chief Magistrate Christopher Birch today. (PR)
