Kevin Farley became the first player to reach the semi-finals of the Men’s Islandwide Open after back to back wins at the Table Tennis Centre, Nursery Drive, Monday night.
Farley beat Rashad King 11-7, 11-8, 11-4 in a top 16 fixture and then won his quarter-final exchange with Wayne Branch 11-4, 11-8, 13-15, 11-5, 11-3.
On his present path Farley seems headed for a showdown with his brother Trevor Farley who has earned a quarter-final meeting with the winner of the top 16 contest between David Harris and Dale Rudder.
The two brothers could meet in the final if they can sustain their winning streaks.
Trevor earned his semi-final berth by beating Tryvonn Powlett 11-6, 5-11, 11-3, 11-4.
Successful defence
Ann Reid and Sabrina Worrell succesfully defended their women’s doubles title having completed the round robin event unbeaten.
They secured a perfect record after downing Nicole Alleyne and Tara Burrowes 11-3, 11-6, 11-7.
Julia Morris and Anthonette Riley toppled Shelly-Ann Niles and Roseanne  Butcher 11-5, 11-5, 11-7 to finish in second position.
In other matches in the men’s top 16, Abbie Clarke beat Bryan Matthews 11-6, 12-10, 6-11, 11-5 while Wayne Branch defeated Russell Maxwell 11-7, 11-8, 11-4. (HG)
