A national treasure, and an international icon.
That’s how Dr. Carol Jacobs was described recently, after being honoured by the Pan Caribbean Partnership Against HIV and AIDS (PANCAP).
Dr Jacobs, chair of the Caribbean Broadcast Media Partnership on HIV/AIDS (CBMP), and the first Caribbean person and first female elected as chair for The Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria, received the PANCAP award of excellence at their tenth anniversary annual general meeting, under the theme “Reflection and Renewal” in St. Maarten.
The ceremony’s attendees included His Excellency Kofi Annan, former United Nations Secretary-General, Dr. Michel Sidibe´, Executive Director, UNAIDS, Caribbean heads of government, high-level government officials, regional and international donor agencies of the partnership and media.
Dr. Jacobs was one of six Caribbean citizens recognised for their outstanding contribution to stem the region’s HIV pandemic. (BA/PR)
