Yesterday’s heavy rains were showers of blessings for the Sanctuary Empowerment Centre in Country Road, St Michael, where children were given stationery for the Barbados Secondary Schools Common Entrance Examination.
The occasion was to mark the closure of the 11+ In The City Project in which 24 children from the surrounding City districts, mainly from Wesley Hall and St Mary’s primary schools, benefited from complimentary lessons hosted by the church in the last two months.
Pastor Dr Marlon Husbands said though it was a pilot project, the church had already seen “the positive impact of the contribution to the families in the community, and it must now continue to implement the initiative”.
Husbands thanked parents for “releasing their children in our care for the duration of the project” and presented them with food hampers. The service ended with prayers for the children who will face the Common Entrance Exam tomorrow.
Project manager Anthony Greene thanked the sponsors Capita Financial Services, Barbados Public Workers’ Corporative Credit Union, WIBISCO, The Nation Publishing Co., the Primary School Yearbook, Chefette and Pine Hill Dairy.
