$25 million lifeline to Mangrove

Minister of Environment Denis Lowe said yesterday the jury was still out on the Greenland Landfill while disclosing that the teeming Mangrove Landfill was to have a life extension.
“We are still doing some investigation [at Greenland], which will allow us to make an evidence-based decision,” he told the DAILY NATION.
The $45 million Greenland Landfill in St Andrew was built by the previous administration to replace Mangrove, under strong objection by the present Government when in Opposition.
Speaking at an awards ceremony B’s Recycling company held for some customers involved in its Going Green campaign yesterday, the minister acknowledged that Cell 3 at Mangrove had only nine months of life and had to be closed.
