A change is coming to the leadership of the National Insurance Department (NIS), with director Ian Carrington preparing for his transfer to a recently established agency in a matter of days.
From Monday, October 1, Carrington will head up the Financial Services Commission (FSC) which is responsible for the supervisory and regulatory activities of the non-banking financial sector.
NIS board chairman Tony Marshall confirmed Carrington’s departure in a brief interview with the MIDWEEK NATION yesterday evening. Asked who would fill the position following Carrington’s departure, he said: “I cannot confirm who would be acting. I would assume, in any event, that when he leaves the deputy [Almroth Williams] will carry on as he has done in the past until such time.”
Carrington’s move comes on the heels of a controversy surrounding a since reversed plan by NIS to stop paying pensioners by cheque and require them to open bank accounts to get their money. However, sources have disclosed that the decision to send Carrington to the FSC came about two months before that announcement was made.
