CALYPSONIANS AND REVELLERS will return to a refurbished National Stadium next year.
This change was announced yesterday by Minister of Family, Culture, Sports and Youth, Stephen Lashley, at the Crop Over breakfast launch at the Hilton Barbados.
He said next year’s festival would see the return to “the mecca of calypso” for the Pic-O-De-Crop finals and Cohobblopot, which were moved to Kensington Oval in 2008.
Lashley said the feedback from Barbadians indicate that the National Stadium  “is indeed the venue of choice for the Pic-O-De-Crop competition, as the intimate environment allows calypsonians to get closer to their fans – to really, as they say, feel the crowd”.
He said plans were already in train to refurbish the stadium and provide better acoustics, washrooms and other amenities.
