PROVIDENCIALES, Turks and Caicos Islands CMC – An international arrest warrant has been issued for the arrest of former premier Michael Misick, a spokesman for the Office of the Governor of this British Overseas Territory has said.
In a statement, the official said that a “Red Notice” authorised by Interpol has also been issued.
“For the past several months the Special Investigation and Prosecutions Team (SIPT) has sought to secure the attendance of Mr Misick at its offices in Providenciales in respect of allegations of corruption and money laundering during his time in office,” the spokesperson said in a press release.
The official said that “every opportunity has been given to Misick to voluntarily surrender to the SIPT’s jurisdiction for interview.
“Despite previous indications from Misick’s solicitors that he would attend for interview, he has failed to do so,” the statement added.
Last year, Misick’s assets worldwide were frozen after Chief Justice Gordon Ward made the order.
The judge ordered that all Misick’s assets, including bank accounts in Turks and Caicos and overseas, his personal residence in the capital, parcels of land throughout the Turks and Caicos Islands, two condominiums, a cinema and several credit cards.
Last week, Misick and Governor Ric Todd were involved in a war of words after the former premier questioned the morality of the government and called for a probe into its conduct. (CMC)
