The post-Norman Forde/John “Nobby” Parris era in national football has started with the recall of striker Dwayne Stanford and midfielder Malcolm “Buju” Marshall.
Stanford and Marshall, who last represented Barbados in 2008 during the 2010 World Cup qualifying campaign, have been named in Barbados’ 19-man squad for two friendly internationals in St Vincent on Saturday and Sunday.
Also returning to the Colin “Potato” Forde-coached outfit are temperamental midfielder Curtis Odle, fellow midfielder Rashida Jeffrey Williams and goalkeeper Kerry Holder.
Former Barbados captains Forde and Parris have both retired from national duty as well as long-serving defender Jonathan Straker.
Goalkeeper Bentley Springer, who served as Jason Boxhill’s deputy in last year’s winless campaign for the 2014 World Cup, and rugged defender Omar Archer are not in the squad, as well as talented utility player Kadeem Atkins, young striker Diquan Adamson and 2010 Player of the Year Kyle Gibson.
The friendlies are part of Barbados’ preparation for the upcoming Digicel Caribbean Cup Championships which will see the country hosting a qualifying zone, next month (September) with matches against Dominica (September 23), the Dominican Republic (September 25) and Aruba (September 27).
