An oversight committee established by Government will continue to monitor things at the Alexandra school during the on-going teacher and principal transfer controversy.
This was revealed today by Chief Education Officer Laurie King after the new principal and deputy principal as well as new teachers spent their first official day at Alexandra.
“We introduced the principal (Orson Alleyne), deputy-principal (June Browne) and the teachers to the student body and the other members of staff. They were very well received,” King said.
“The teachers who were re-assigned are in attendance and have taken up their duties. The students were very receptive, and everything went well.”
Apart from the visitors who represented the ministry being on the school campus earlier this morning, things appeared normal at the school, with laughing children flowing through the gates from as early as 7.30 a.m.
New principal Orson Alleyne arrived just before 8, and soon left his office to take a quick trip around the compound.
School security’s job was a little tougher, with guards forced to enquire from all persons driving in if they were part of the new teaching staff.
Democratic Labour Party candidate for St Peter in the next general election, Haynesley Benn also visited the school. The Minister of Commerce and Trade said he was there to offer moral support to the school. (BA)
