NexCyx has moved into the finals of the Ryan Seacrest Best Maroon 5 Cover contest as part of his March Music madness promotion.
The Bajan band advanced to this round after a keenly contested voting period doing their YouTube version of Moves Like Jagger. Discovered on Youtube by Seacrest, the band doesn’t know what the competition entails but are happy nonetheless for the international recognition.
They led Round Two voting and the semifinals are now in the lead of the finals with 58 per cent of votes. Four other covers are competing against them: Paradise Fears’ Payphone with 27%, Joanna Burns doing Hard To Breathe with 12% of the votes. Chelsea Williams’s Daylight and Mike Stud and ELEW’s One More Night hasn’t garnered any votes as yet.
During the voting rounds the fans have been very supportive of the band and the group, consisting of  a self-taught pianist turned producer (André), a drumming prodigy (Chad), an accidental bass guitarist (Kris), a one-woman dancer-singer-rapper (Mahalia) and a hardcore rocker (Russell).
“We are incredibly grateful to our fans and everyone in Barbados, who have kept us in the running. This is an amazing opportunity for our band,” said Mahalia, lead vocalist. (NS)
