Come November a pilot scheme gine target visitors from seven countries who gine have to pay a bond of £3 000 as a guarantee that dem not gine violate de terms of stay in de U.K. and if dem fail to return home de deposit gine be forfeited. If de visitor can’t pay dem, family and friends hosting dem gine be asked to pay.
I read ’bout dis in de Sunday Times newspaper in de UK on June 23! Initially seven countries gine be in dis pilot scheme and yuh don’t have to go too far to know which countries in de scheme! De Home Secretary Theresa May say: “In the long run we’re interested in a system of bonds that deters overstaying and recovers costs if a foreign national has used our public services.”
Now, check de countries in dis pilot scheme: India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Nigeria and Ghana. Surprise surprise! Wunnah notice anything ’bout dem countries? Dese countries have been deemed “high risk” and while one official say this is not an entry fee you and I know different.
So de Mother Country following Australia, which introduced something similar back in de 90s to stem de flow of immigration, where a relative or some agency must guarantee a bond and forfeit it if de visitor don’t leave at the end of the approved stay.
Fair enough, every country got a right to protect de country from being overrun by unwanted visitors but ah finding it hard to believe dat only non-white countries included in dis scheme. Something don’t smell right to de Vendor!
Theresa May want Market to believe dat only people from de Indian subcontinent and Africa does overstay de time given in de UK and dat dem is de only ones who does mek use of de services of de government? And after dese “high risk” countries another set of “low risk” countries, including – you guessed it – more African countries, example Kenya, gine be included in de scheme.
Look out, Caribbean people, wunnah next. Look fuh Jamaica, Guyana, St Lucia and other countries in de Caribbean being added and eventually de list gine include all ah we and just like de airline tax dat crippling de tourism business out of de UK to de Caribbean, we gine hear plenty wailing from politicians but de Brits not gine budge. So, start saving people because wunnah gine have to put up a bond to go to de mother country, if not now, soon, it coming!
I find it strange dat not one single white country included in dis scheme. Dese people don’t care what wunnah think. Dem targeting Third World countries and de screws tightening tighter and tighter!
But keep looking and listening and, look out, soon wunnah gine see copycat behaviour in de region and sooner or later we gine see people from one Caribbean country being asked to put up a bond. Yuh know how we does like to copy de Mother Country!
I wouldn’t be surprised if one day coming soon when Guyanese, Jamaicans, Vincies and others gine have to put up a bond when visiting other Caribbean countries!
Some gine argue it is a good idea. To quote a friend: “If Miss Myrie’s sponsor in Bubbadus did have to post a bond, all now dat case woulda never be before the CCJ!” See what I mean?
