Minister of Tourism Richard Sealy is gung-ho about Crop Over 2013 airline arrivals and plans to look at ways to “lengthen” the season.
At the signing of an agreement between the Ministry of Tourism and International Transport, the Caribbean Tourism Organization (CTO) and the general secretariat of the Organisation of American States (OAS) at the Lloyd Erskine Sandiford Centre yesterday, he said it was “almost impossible to get a flight into Barbados during this week or a flight out”.
Stating that no definitive figures were available yet, he described the arrivals as “extremely strong” despite the reduction in capacity with the loss of REDjet and cutbacks in some airlines.
However, he noted, there were efforts to increase capacity in the region.
“We’re fairly satisfied that where the Crop Over is concerned we’ve seen some good arrivals. I was also heartened by the early nature of it. Basically, for this entire week and last weekend, quite a few persons, especially from the region, were here,” he added. (RJ)
