England make winning start

NOT EVEN A century by Barbadian batsman Kyle Corbin could save the Vice Chancellor’s XI which fell to a 29-run defeat to England XI today at North Sound, Antigua.
England got their tour of the West Indies off to a winning note, scoring 290 for eight off their 50 overs while limiting the Vice Chancellor’s XI to 261 for seven off their 50.
Corbin scored 105 off 102 balls, comprising nine fours and five sixes, before he steered a half volley wide to James Tredwell at backward point off the bowling of Tim Bresnan.
Wicketkeeper Devon Thomas added 40 off 34 balls as Tredwell took three for 39 and captain Stuart Broad two for 40.
Earlier, Joe Root took the spotlight in the England innings with an unbeaten, run-a-ball 104. Ben Stokes scored 58 before he drove straight to Paul Palmer at mid off to give Miguel Cummins his lone wicket.
Akeem Dewar took three wickets for 67 runs and Raymon Reifer two for 46.
England will play West Indies in the first One-Day International on Friday at the Sir Vivian Richards cricket grounds. (SAT)
