AFTER MORE THAN SIX HOURS, the two parties at the centre of the strike at Portvale Sugar Factory are still locked in talks with Minister of Labour Senator Dr Esther Byer-Suckoo.
The meeting to settle the dispute between the Barbados Workers Union (BWU) and the Barbados Agricultural Management Company (BAMC) got underway just after 4 p.m. today. Among those attending are BWU general secretary Sir Roy Trotman and his delegation; BAMC general manager Leslie Parris and consultant Arni Walters.
It has been a waiting game for several journalists on site in Warrens.
The parties involved have taken several breaks, but no announcements or updates have been given.
Last Thursday, workers at the Portvale, St James factory went on strike to protest the treatment of colleagues who were made redundant after the Andrew’s Sugar Factory closed.
Talks were held over the weekend under the chairmanship of Chief Labour Officer Vincent Burnett, but those broke down, leading to the matter bring taken to the minister. (SAT)
