A VOCAL AND DEMANDING crowd of National Conservation Commission (NCC) workers is ready to down tools and take to the road to protest the layoff policy of the Commission.
The workers’ representative bodies, the National Union of Public Workers (NUPW) and the Barbados Workers Union (BWU), faced an incensed and packed auditorium of workers who demanded action from them.
“We are not wasting time, like everything else, we have to know what level of support we have and this morning would be a show of that support where we can start mobilising things,” said Dennis Clarke, NUPW General Secretary this morning at the Union’s Headquarters, Dalkeith Road.
Clarke told the scores of workers that the issue was not only to mobilise workers from the NCC but those from other areas, “especially those that did not have any cuts as yet”.
The unions and their members are demanding the NCC management withdraw some of its retrenchment letters to 190 odd workers and that the “last in first out” method be used. (JS)
