KINGSTON, Jamaica –The police have reported that six illegal firearms were seized at the wake early today for 31-year-old construction worker Mario Deane, who was beaten to death early August while in custody at the Barnett Street lock-up in Montego Bay.

The Jamaica Constabulary Force’s Corporate Communications Unit this morning confirmed that the firearms were found in bushes at Rosemount, Montego Bay where Deane’s wake was being held.

Police reports are that around 4 a.m. the officers, after receiving information, went to the wake and upon their arrival a number of men fled leaving the weapons behind.

No one was arrested.

Deane died on August 6 in hospital after being brutally beaten at the Barnett Street police station three days before.

His funeral service is scheduled for tomorrow. (Jamaica Observer)
