THE NATIONAL UNION of Public Workers (NUPW) and the Barbados Workers’ Union (BWU) declared victory for all workers, as they finally won the battle to have the ten employees who were forced into early retirement returned to work.

On the eve of a national strike, the Barbados Investment and Development Corporation (BIDC)finally backed down from its stance and agreed to reinstate the workers, putting an end to a four-week impasse, which had already resulted in a protest march and the non-collection of garbage across the country.

This condition, along with others agreed upon, was announced during a joint Press conference by the two unions yesterday at the NUPW’s Dalkeith, St Michael headquarters, three hours after the proposals were put on the table by the BIDC, following a high-level meeting with the subcommittee of the Social Partnership.
