THE Barbados girls team got off to a winning start for the team competition of the Caribbean Junior Squash Championships on Tuesday night at the Barbados Squash Club in Marine Gardens, Christ Church.

Barbados defeated the OECS team 4-1 on court one in front of a large and supportive crowd. Under-13 girls’ silver medallist Chelsie Samuel was first up for the Bajans and defeated Vincentian Giovanna Miller-Alexander 4-1.

Samuel seemed nervous in the first game and was down 0-8. However, she began to make better controlled shots and rattled off six unanswered points. The deficit proved to be a bit much and the Vincentian won that game 6-11.
