Stuart you’re wrong, says legal expert

“SORRY, MR STUART. You’re incorrect.”

That is a legal expert’s view on Prime Minister Freundel Stuart’s assertion that central Government, like statutory corporations, can retire its civil servants at age 60.

In fact, Stuart went on to claim that civil servants who reach 55 years old can be asked to retire under very special circumstances.

The expert contends that Stuart’s perspective does not take into consideration laws passed after the Pensions Act (Cap 25) which related to Government workers and predates the 1969 Statutory Boards Pensions Act, that gives those entities the right to streamline their operations. (SP)
