Coach not surprised by returns

IT’S ALMOST as if Alwyn Babb anticipated the medals.

Barbados’ head athletics coach at the Pan Am Games doesn’t seem the least bit surprised by the country’s historic returns, saying that each of the three medallists came into the meet extremely prepared for the level of competition.

Babb expressed the sentiment after second-place 100 metres finisher Ramon Gittens, and bronze medallists Akela Jones and Shane Brathwaite helped Barbados achieve their best ever showing at a Pan Am Games last week.

“In the offseason they work hard on their weak areas and they were able to have quality competition all year through the efforts of their coaches, and in the case of Shane and Ramon, their agents as well,” explained Babb. (JM)
