British High Commission: No truth to claims

THE BRITISH HIGH COMMISSION in Barbados has “categorically” denied allegations that the United Kingdom government was barring Barbadians and other Caribbean nationals from entering that country because of their governments’ stance on homosexuality and gay marriages.

In response to an article carried in yesterday’s DAILYNATION, where watersports operator Moses Petro alleged that he and a number of other Caribbean nationals were recently denied entry into the UK because Barbados was openly anti-gay, a statement from the high commission declared that immigration decisions in the UK were not based on disagreement with policies of the Barbados Government.

“Entry to the UK is granted to persons who comply with immigration rules and regulations, which are applied in a transparent and fair manner in all cases,” the statement read.
