AUTHORITIES HAVE GIVEN notice that Barbados is awaiting the conclusion of the general election in Trinidad and Tobago next week to kickstart negotiations on a fishing agreement between the two countries.

Ambassador to Caricom Robert “Bobby” Morris, who led Barbados’ team in successful boundary delimitation talks with St Vincent and the Grenadines, declared that this country intended to move on the issue “post haste”.

He denied that the negotiations had been pushed on the backburner, insisting that it was necessary to gauge the right time to conduct such talks.

“As soon as that is over, Barbados will be starting to mount its position to start negotiations on a bilateral agreement that looks at fishing between our two countries,” he told the media yesterday afternoon following the signing of the treaty on the delimitation of boundaries between Barbados and St Vincent and the Grenadines.
