CONSTITUENCY FOOTBALL is back. And Government is making no qualms about it.

Despite facing a hefty $440 000 bill, Minister of Social Care Steve Blackett is more than defending the return of the David Thompson Memorial Constituency Councils’ Football Classic, having reasoned that Barbados stands to benefit both economically and socially from the tournament.

Blackett expressed the sentiment at the Parkinson Community Centre during yesterday’s launch of the Classic, which suffered a one-year hiatus due to financial constraints.

“I have one mantra by which I conduct the business of the Ministry of Social Care, and that is the best place to spend taxpayers’ money is on the taxpayers themselves and that is exactly what we’re doing,” Blackett said.
