NOTHING SAID A BAJAN Christmas like “Snow On The Mountain”, Poinsettia and “Christmas Candle”.

But the plants that once graced many a garden and heralded the festive season in Barbados are fast disappearing from the landscape.

It’s simply a case, said Orson Daisley, president of the Barbados Horticultural Society, and Dr Karl Watson, head of the Barbados National Trust, of certain traditional plants falling out of fashion in favour of imported ornamentals.

But according to Daisley, Snow On The Mountain is slowly seeing a resurgence.

“I think people are getting back into it now because, surprising, I’ve seen a lot of Snow On The Mountain, more in the country area, but they’ve become harder and harder to plant now because of the weather,” he noted.
