Well, well, well, who would believe it is January 2016 a’ready and the days just seem tuh be flying gine long at brek-neck speed. Nuh wonder the li’l children growing up suh fast and doan talk ’bout the babies at all.
A couple weeks, not even months after duh born, duh does be holding up duh heads and looking all around, like dem know ’bout here a’ready and looking fuh something.
I pray dat this New Year would bring wid it happiness where there was no happiness, joy where there was no joy, peace where there was no peace and fuh all the people who lost duh jobs in the last year and still struggling, I pray dat life will smile pon dem and new doors would open.
I pray dat they will see dat despite all the challenges, they would allow demselves tuh see dat God still brought dem through it, in tuh a band new year of endless possibilities.
Talking ’bout dat, I was so glad tuh see the people in White Hill finally get a road where they could get to and from duh homes, especially around the busy Christmas season.
It must have been so hard fuh those poor people up in there fuh what seemed like ages not tuh be able tuh get in and outta duh homes as duh like. But thank God things seem tuh be looking up fuh dem at last.
On the other hand, I feel real bad fuh all o’ dem people up there in St Joseph who was widout water during the Christmas period.
Dat had tuh be rough; dat ain’t nuh time fuh nuhbody tuh be out tuh something as precious and necessary as water. Dat is the time when ya does really need water.
But ya know what I have come tuh notice ovah the years? I realise dat a lot o’ weird things does happen at Christmas time. While it is suppose tuh to be a time of peace, joy, goodwill and happiness, some strange things does happen in December. Duh like duh does wait till December tuh happen.
Look, if it ain’t a house burning down and the people losing evah single thing, it is somebody wid li’l children who ain’t got nowhere tuh go, getting evicted. It does also be some kinda tragedy, a family dispute dat end up ugly, a fire, a bad accident, a sudden death, all kinds o’ weird things.
Dat is another thing: you evah notice how many people does dead in December, during the Christmas season and in tuh January? Well, I gine tell ya, I does notice it evah single year. People like duh does just be holding on till Christmas come or till the New Year turn and then let go. I have been noticing this fuh a good few years now and it doan only be old people alone, ya know? It does be people of all ages, including children. I ain’t know what it is but it is true.
Anyway, I pray dat this year 2016 will bring along wid it some release fuh all the people who really had it rough financially over the past year and comfort tuh all the ones who lost duh homes and or loved ones either naturally or tragically.
I also pray dat as we the people of Barbados go in tuh the 50th year of Independence we will turn our attention back tuh the One who has brought us safely through and spared us from the natural disasters dat have passed our way all these years.
Have a wonderful New Year, everybody! I pray dat God will continue tuh let His countenance shine on us.
