ERROL BARROW DAY this year will see hundreds Barbados’ past, present and future athletes take to the road for a 50th anniversary Trident Run and Sunset Community Concert.

Minister of Foreign Affairs Senator Maxine McClean, who also chairs the 50th Anniversary of Independence Celebration Committee, said the run would take a 13.6 kilometre route starting at Independence Square in The City and ending at the St George Parish church.

“In this golden year of Barbados independence it is important that we as Barbadians celebrate the legacy of nationhood that the right excellent Errol Walton Barrow worked so tirelessly to establish. This is a part of that celebration,” McClean said.

The oldest athlete on the road Thursday will be 77-year-old sporting legend James “Jim” Wedderburn, who was the first Barbadian to win a medal as a part of the British West Indies 4×400 metre relay team at the 1960 Rome Summer Olympics.

Meanwhile, the Sunset Community Concert which will commence after the run, will feature musical performances from educational institutions across the island.

McClean explained the performers would include the Alleyne Secondary School band, the 1688 junior band, Harrison College pop school band and the St George Secondary School steel orchestra.

Deputy head at the Secretariat, Commander Aquinas Clarke said the road restrictions for the run would be announced at a later date. (AD)
