Cashing in on the road

MONEY doesn’t grow on trees, but it’s certainly been sprouting from the road. Road tennis, that is.

They’re not exactly laughing all the way to the bank, yet today’s players have still been able to make quite the living for themselves off our indigenous sport following the meteoric rise in payouts over the last three seasons.

It’s not been much of a secret either, with self-made superstars like Mark “Venom” Griffith, Julian “Michael Jackson” White and Antonio “Lil Man” Daniel all becoming household names after being highlighted for drawing big crowds and even bigger bucks.

The Professional Road Tennis Association (PRTA) has also garnered more than its fair share of media attention too –both good and bad – while breaking the bank to hand out large prize monies via the creation of true professional tournaments.
