BARBADOS TRIDENTS got a boost with the acquisition of South Africa’s Test and One-Day captain A.B. de Villiers, but lost a number of key players, including the dynamic Dwayne Smith in yesterday’s players draft for this year’s Hero Caribbean Premier League (CPL).

The draft was held at the Concorde Experience to the east of the Grantley Adams International Airport, and Smith was the first former Tridents player to take flight as he was snapped up by Guyana’s Amazon Warriors for US$110 000.

Amazon Warriors, who have retained aggressive New Zealand opener Martin Guptill, also purchased Pakistani Sohail Tanvir as their first pick for US$160 000 and one-time Tridents’ skipper Rayad Emrit for US$70 000.

Versatile Bajan all-rounder Jonathan Carter has also been bought for US$60 000 by the St Kitts & Nevis Patriots, who also landed dashing Trinidadian top-order batsman Lendl Simmons, South Africa’s T20 captain Faf du Plessis, veteran Australian Brad Hodge, Sri Lankan all-rounder Thisara Perera, Trinidadian leg-spinner Samuel Badree and Jamaican swing bowler Krishmar Santokie.
