HEALTH CARE IN BARBADOS may be free but Barbadians with money are getting faster and easier access to care, a medical doctor has revealed.
Lecturer in public health at the University of the West Indies (UWI), Dr Natasha Sobers-Grannum, said research was showing several instances of inequities in the country’s highly touted health care system. She was speaking on Tuesday night at the Ministry of Health’s third town hall meeting at Alexandra School, St Peter.
“Over the past two years with the research we did . . . things like life expectancy and health care access differ by things that they should not differ by,” she said.
The clinician added that she had seen health care outcomes in Barbados differ by things such as gender, educational and occupational standards, which should not be.
