FORMER MINISTER of justice Keith Simmons is calling for Government to investigate the foods vendors sell if it wants to head off childhood obesity.
He made the call on Tuesday night at the Ministry of Health’s town hall meeting on health-care financing held at Alexandra School in St Peter.
“Tonight we touched on prevention and I think that’s most important. There are hundreds of people selling stuff and nobody seems to be able to know what they are selling,” the Queen’s Counsel and former magistrate said.
Simmons, who served as a minister in several capacities including minister of education from 1986 until 1994, explained that people were guided by their taste buds, and eating corn curls from three months old more than likely would mean one would be eating similarly at three years old.
