CRIMINAL ELEMENTS in Barbados may soon have to run for cover when the Royal Barbados Police Force gets a drone as part of a $5 million upgrade.
The announcement came from Acting Minister of Home Affairs Michael Lashley during a retirement function for 14 officers at Solidarity House on Saturday night. He said the force had made representation to Government for a state-of-the-art drone to help in its surveillance exercises and funding would be included in next month’s Estimates.
Lashley assured the lawmen that Government would provide the tools to assist them in their fight against crime, adding that Cabinet recently approved a multimillion-dollar upgrade of the force’s telecommunications capabilities.
He also said that a high-speed boat worth $850 000 had already been purchased to assist in policing of Barbados’ territorial waters. (SDB Media)
