I DO HOPE that all of you had a good and Blessed Easter. As for me it was one of blessings and thanksgiving to Almighty God for the glorious Resurrection of His son our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.
It was very pleasant also for St Joseph from the point of view that the people of the parish (where I live) were supplied with water during the holidays, with at least two water tanks at a time servicing the Horse Hill area. On Easter Monday about three tanks were also serviced; men were seen at work late into the night. Thanks to the Barbados Water Authority, the supervisors and the tank drivers for a job well done over the holidays.
Another pleasant situation to behold was the delivery of canes until Maundy Thursday (the Thursday in Holy Week) and on the Saturday before Easter. This was a good sign of productivity for the country because it has always been the view of this writer that the factory should be working right through Holy Week with only a break on Good Friday. With the uncertainty of the weather every available time should be utilised. I do hope that this form of productivity will continue in the sugar industry if there is one.
Now to the bad side of Holy Week. (The Saturday) I did a service at 6 p.m. at the St Aidan Church which took the form of the lighting of the new fire and the renewal of baptismal vows and sung Eucharist which was disturbed by the music from a party from one of the beach houses next door to the church. What a pity!
It shows that persons in these days do not have any respect for the church and its worship. The hurtful part is that some of those partygoers do need the church at some point in time especially when it comes to funerals and they will make all kinds of demands on the church. Why could those partygoers not take a break during the service?
Come on let us show more respect for God’s place of worship. Harvest fair
The St Joseph Parish Church will be holding its annual harvest fair tomorrow, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on the hard court opposite the old parish church Canon Massiah’s pig tail soul will be on sale.
Harvest
The St Joseph Parish Church will be holding its harvest on Sunday, at the St Aidan Church, Bathsheba, St Joseph with Procession and sung Eucharist at 10 a.m. In the evening at 4 p.m. will be the harvest programme. Those taking part will be the church choir and the Sunday school.
The Moravian Church Rev. Rudolph Holder Tape Ball T20 Cricket Competition continues tonight at the James Bryan Pavilion, Market Hill, St George with Cox Road New Testament vs Dunscombe Moravian at 7 p.m.
Harvest festivals
Penuel Moravian Church, Sweet Vale, St George Annual Harvest Festival takes place on Sunday, at 3:30 p.m. The St Philip Moravian Fellowship, Six Roads, St Philip harvest will be held on Sunday, April 10.

The James Street Methodist Church will be holding a yard sale tomorrow on the church grounds from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Feast of title
The Church of the Resurrection will continue its Feast of Title tonight until Sunday. Tonight is Youth Night at 7:30 p.m. On Sunday, solemn Mass will be at 8 a.m. and a sunset concert featuring the Barbados Defence orce Band and other artistes at 5 p.m.
Evangelistic service
The White Hall Methodist Church, Whitehall, St Michael will be holding a series of evangelistic services from Sunday, to Thursday. The service on Sunday will begin at 5:30 p.m. while during the week it will begin at 7 p.m. The preacher will be Prophet Derrick Manning from New York.
Health and wellness fair
The Church of God at Chapman Street is hosting a health and wellness fair on Saturday, April 9, from 9:30 a.m. until 3 p.m.
Death
It is with great regret that we learnt of the death of Dennis Clarke, a faithful member of St Mary’s Anglican Church. He was buried on Wednesday in the St Mary’s Church yard. This Column extends its deepest sympathy to his wife Gladwyn and children. May he rest in Jesus Christ and rise in glory.
Anniversary lecture
As part of the 185th anniversary of the St Matthew Church, there will be a lecture, under the patronage of the Most Rev. Dr John Holder and Mrs Holder, to be given by Senator Sir Henry Fraser on The Ministry of St Matthew on Tuesday, April 12, at 6:30 p.m. at the Frank Collymore Hall.
