HEALTH OFFICIALS ARE WARNING cigarette retailers to pull down several offending billboards that are advertising cheap smokes.
And Acting Chief Medical Officer Dr Kenneth George says that laws are coming to bar the advertising of tobacco products in order to protect public health.
For several years, retailers have stopped advertising the product publicly, but George said billboards linked to a Chinese company have popped up in Christ Church, St Thomas, St George and on the West Coast in breach of a long-standing agreement between the ministry and retailers.
The ministry is writing the offender but in the meantime, George has instructed those responsible to remove the advertisement. He said that not only had the ministry noticed the attempt to get the around the agreement, but others had drawn it to their attention. (AC)
