MEMBERS OF THE public are being encouraged to wear green this Friday, June 3, in celebration of World Environment Day, which falls on Sunday, June 5.

This will also form part of the Ministry of the Environment and Drainage’s activities to mark Environment Month 2016, themed Living Sustainably is…Celebrating 50 years of Environmental Stewardship.

School children, Government officers and all citizens are encouraged to wear green T-shirts, green ribbons or green articles of clothing on Friday in celebration of the day.

According to environmental education officer in the Ministry, Donna King-Brathwaite, all those who wear green on World Environment Day “will be demonstrating their commitment to environmental stewardship”.

World Environment Day was first celebrated in 1972 to raise awareness about environmental issues and increase environmental action. Environment Month is celebrated during the month of June in Barbados and there are a number of events planned through the Ministry and its departments. (BGIS)
