AFTER MONTHS OF TASTING the bitter, residents of districts around Andrews Sugar Factory in St Joseph are looking forward to savouring the sweets as they breathe a collective sigh of relief.

Roadworks associated with the laying of new water mains had left many of them trying to cope daily with stuffy noses, watery eyes and dusty houses, but on Tuesday they were overjoyed when workmen with road-paving equipment started laying a new asphalt surface.

Sharon Mayers, who looks after her sick husband Wayne Mayers, told the DAILY NATION she had a lot of washing and wiping to do as she treated her partner, a cancer patient.

“He is very sick; he may not want you to know but I had to wipe down all here,” she said, pointing to verandah railings heavily powered with dust. (MR/SB)
